Our aim is to make locum work feel properly supported — with fair shift allocation, PAYE, competitive pay, development opportunities and a team that gets to know the people who work with us.

About the role

As a Locum Dental Nurse with S4S Locum Team, you’ll work across a range of dental practices in York and surrounding areas, supporting teams with planned and short-notice cover while bringing your experience, professionalism and adaptability into different practice environments.

You can choose the type of working arrangement that best suits you. We’re currently recruiting for full-time and part-time locum work, alongside Guaranteed Hours opportunities for nurses who want additional income security.

If you join us on a Guaranteed Hours arrangement, you’ll agree to be available for a set number of days each week and receive a guaranteed minimum level of monthly pay based on that agreed weekly commitment.

What you’ll get

  • Full-time and part-time locum opportunities

  • Guaranteed Hours options where suitable

  • £17.25–£20.25 per hour PAYE, depending on the type of shift you work

  • Higher rates within this range for same-day, weekend and specialist nursing shifts

  • PAYE, with tax and National Insurance handled through payroll

  • Funded CPD and development opportunities

  • Fair and considered shift allocation

  • Support from the S4S Locum Team throughout your bookings

  • Use of the S4S Locum Team app to manage availability, bookings and timesheets

  • Recognition through Nurse of the Month, Nurse of the Year and Ambassador opportunities

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for experienced Dental Nurses who are comfortable working across different practices and enjoy the variety that comes with locum work.

You’ll need to be:

  • GDC-registered as a Dental Nurse

  • Qualified with relevant chairside experience

  • Reliable, professional and confident adapting to different practice environments

  • Happy to travel across York and surrounding areas

  • Comfortable communicating with different teams and representing S4S Locum Team professionally

  • Able to provide the documentation required to complete our thorough onboarding and compliance process

We’ll always aim to keep bookings as local and practical as possible, based on where you live and the travel preferences you give us.

Could you become an S4S Ambassador?

For nurses who consistently stand out, there may also be the opportunity to become an S4S Locum Team Ambassador.

Our Ambassadors play an important role in representing S4S Locum Team in dental practices, supporting our wider locum community and helping us build stronger relationships across the areas we serve.

It’s an opportunity to become more involved in the business, contribute beyond your individual shifts and be recognised for the standard of work you deliver.
