How S4S Locum Team began

S4S Locum Team was founded in February 2018 with a clear aim: to build a dental staffing business where people, relationships and service mattered just as much as filling the shift.

From the beginning, the idea wasn’t simply to create another agency that sent somebody whenever a practice had a gap in its rota.

We wanted to build something based around people and relationships.

That meant getting to know the dental professionals working with us, understanding the practices using our service and recognising that a successful booking is about much more than putting a name against an empty shift.

Those principles still sit at the heart of S4S Locum Team today.

Growing without losing what made us different

What began as a small Sheffield business has grown into a specialist dental staffing partner supporting independent practices and dental groups across Yorkshire, the Midlands, North West and North East, with our network continuing to expand.

The business has changed enormously since those early days.

Our team has grown. Our systems and technology have developed. We work with far more practices and locum professionals, across a much wider geographical area.

But one thing we’ve worked hard not to change is how personal the business feels.

We still believe the best staffing relationships are built by knowing the people on both sides.

More than filling a shift

Temporary staffing will always involve filling gaps in rotas. But we don’t believe that should be the whole relationship.

We want S4S Locum Team to become a trusted staffing partner to the practices we work with.

That means understanding how a practice operates, knowing the kind of people who work well within its team and doing our best to make the right match.

It also means being honest when we can’t help, responsive when something changes and accountable when something doesn’t go to plan.

For our locum professionals, it means being treated as people rather than names on a database.

We want them to feel supported, recognised and genuinely part of S4S Locum Team.

People first. Technology where it helps.

As we’ve grown, technology has become an important part of making staffing simpler.

Our app, Client Shift Manager and internal systems help us manage bookings, availability, compliance and communication more efficiently.

But we’ve never wanted technology to replace the relationships behind the service.

There are still real people behind every booking — people who know our clients, know our locums and are there when somebody needs help.

That balance matters to us.

The values we want to grow with

Growth is important to us, but how we grow matters just as much.

We want to continue building S4S Locum Team around the values that have shaped the business from the beginning: honesty, integrity, professionalism, curiosity, loyalty and looking after people properly.

We believe in being interested in the people and businesses we work with, continuing to ask questions and never assuming there isn’t a better way of doing something.

And as S4S Locum Team gets bigger, protecting that culture becomes even more important.
